TimeScribe

TimeScribe keeps work hours on the machine that recorded them. There is no account to create, no cloud to upload to and no paid tier, which suits freelancers billing clients, remote workers logging hours and anyone who wants a record of the day without handing it to a vendor.

It is a Laravel application wrapped in NativePHP for the desktop, with a Vue and Tailwind interface and a local SQLite database. Start, pause and stop are one click from the menu bar, and the timer can also be driven from Shortcuts, Alfred, Raycast, AutoHotkey or a script through deep links.

Beyond the stopwatch, the app organizes the working week.

• Day and week views: visualize work patterns and see where the hours actually went.
• App activity: track application usage and categorize real work against distractions.
• Projects: log time against projects with descriptions, hourly rates and billing calculations.
• Absences: plan vacation, sick leave and public holidays alongside tracked time.
• Automatic start and pause: screen time and idle status can drive the timer without manual input.
• Exports: send records to PDF, Excel or CSV for reporting elsewhere.

Installers are published for Windows and for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, with Homebrew and WinGet packages available and automatic updates built in. The interface ships in eight languages, among them Danish, German, French, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Chinese, and the app is distributed under GPL-3.0.
