Digital signage software for Raspberry Pi, PCs and generic ARM boards, for anyone turning an ordinary screen into a managed display.

Anthias turns a Raspberry Pi, a PC or a spare ARM single-board computer into a digital signage player driving whatever screen it is plugged into. It was previously called Screenly OSE and was renamed to separate it clearly from Screenly, the paid product from the same company.

Content is handled from a web dashboard holding an asset library of images, videos and web pages, with a scheduler deciding what appears and when. The stack runs in Docker containers, and the installer sets that up on any supported host.

Hardware support reaches further than the Raspberry Pi name suggests.

  • Raspberry Pi OS: the primary target, with a published list of supported Pi models.
  • balenaOS: images can be pulled from balenaHub or downloaded from the project's own releases.
  • Generic ARM boards: any 64-bit ARM host that is not a Pi runs the same stack, tested on Rock Pi 4, Rock 5, Orange Pi 5 and Banana Pi M5.
  • Debian only: the installer wires up the Docker Debian repository, so Ubuntu-based Armbian images fail at the apt update step.
  • Video decoding: on non-Pi boards video decodes in software, fine for casual 720p and stutter-prone at 1080p, so video-heavy signage belongs on a Pi 4, Pi 5 or x86.

Per-SoC hardware decode for Rockchip, Allwinner and Amlogic chips is tracked as planned follow-up work. Images and web pages play smoothly across every supported board, which makes the cheaper hardware a sensible fit for static content.
