Paperless-ngx

Paperless-ngx turns physical documents into a searchable online archive, which is another way of saying it removes the filing cabinet. Invoices, tax records and correspondence get scanned once and are then found by search rather than by memory of where the folder went.

The project is the official successor to the original Paperless and to Paperless-ng, restructured so that a team of maintainers shares responsibility for the codebase instead of one person carrying it alone.

Getting an instance running is deliberately short work.

• Docker Compose: the recommended path, with compose files that pull images from the GitHub container registry.
• Install script: a single shell command configures a Compose environment for you.
• Migration: moving from Paperless-ng is a matter of dropping in the new image.
• Demo: a public instance with demo credentials shows the interface before you install anything.
• Translations: the interface is localized through Crowdin in many languages.

One warning from the maintainers deserves repeating. Documents are stored in clear text without encryption, so the software should never run on an untrusted host. The recommendation is a local server in your own home with backups in place, and the full feature list, screenshots and setup guides live in a separate documentation site.
