Webiny

A self-hosted content platform for AWS serverless, aimed at development teams that need multi-tenancy and code-level extension rather than configuration.

Webiny is an open source content platform that runs inside your own AWS account, so content records and assets never leave infrastructure you control. It is built as a TypeScript framework you extend with code, not a closed product configured through a user interface.

The runtime sits on Lambda, DynamoDB, S3 and CloudFront, with OpenSearch available for full-text search at scale. Pulumi provisions all of it from open source templates, so one deploy command creates the stack, and the same templates can be edited to change Lambda memory, VPC configuration or CloudWatch alarms.

Several applications ship in the box.

  • Headless CMS: custom content models, a GraphQL API, field-level permissions, localization and versioning, defined in the admin interface or in code.
  • Website Builder: a drag-and-drop page editor with a Next.js SDK, so pages render through your own frontend wherever you host it.
  • File Manager: asset management with CDN delivery, folders, tagging and search, wired into both the CMS and the page builder.
  • Multi-tenancy: data, users, assets and permissions isolated per tenant from a single deployment, with tenants created through the GraphQL API.
  • MCP server: gives AI coding agents real knowledge of the framework's extension points instead of generic guesses.

Starting a project needs Node.js 22 or newer, Yarn and an AWS account, and the first deploy takes five to fifteen minutes. The Community Edition is MIT licensed, while role-based access control, multi-tenancy and publishing workflows sit in paid editions. Webiny runs only on AWS, and its extension model assumes TypeScript and React skills on the team.
