Shelf tracks physical things: equipment, devices, tools, vehicles, props and inventory. It exists for teams that have to answer three questions quickly, namely what do we own, where is it and who has it right now, across thousands of assets spread over several locations.

Every asset can carry a printed QR code. Scanning it with any phone opens that asset directly, so checking something out or reporting a problem no longer starts with finding the right row in a spreadsheet. Owner, admin, base and self-service roles decide who is allowed to do which of those things.

The rest of the system builds on that record.

  • Bookings: equipment is reserved with checkout and return dates, double-bookings are prevented, and a calendar integration shows the schedule.
  • Custody: assets are assigned to team members, so who holds what is known at any moment.
  • Locations: buildings, floors, rooms and shelves nest hierarchically, with GPS tagging supported.
  • Kits: related items such as a laptop, charger and dock are bundled and managed as a single unit.
  • Custom fields: purchase dates, warranty details, serial numbers and condition attach to any asset.
  • Reminders and audit trail: alerts are scheduled for maintenance, calibration or warranty expiry, and notes and activity logs stay on the record.

Built on React Router 7 and TypeScript with Prisma over PostgreSQL, Shelf uses Supabase for database, auth and storage. Community-maintained Docker support covers self-hosting and still requires an external Supabase instance. The license is AGPL-3.0.
