RustDesk

RustDesk is remote desktop software written in Rust that works out of the box with no configuration. What distinguishes it is where the traffic goes: use the project's rendezvous and relay servers, stand up your own, or write your own from the published server demo.

Desktop builds use Flutter for the interface, with an older Sciter path kept because it is easier to start from. The media stack comes from libvpx, libyuv, opus and aom, installed through vcpkg, and the whole thing compiles with cargo once a Rust and C++ environment is in place.

A few points matter when weighing it against a hosted service.

• Self-hosted infrastructure: your data stays on servers you control, which is the reason most people switch.
• Cross-platform: builds for Windows, Linux and macOS, with Android through F-Droid and Linux through Flathub.
• No configuration: the client connects without a setup phase before the first session.
• Documented build path: exact dependency lists are given for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, Arch and openSUSE.
• Release channels: stable binaries and nightly builds are both published.

The maintainers state plainly that unauthorized access, control or invasion of privacy is against their guidelines and that they take no responsibility for misuse, which is worth reading before deploying it across machines you do not own. A build guide, a FAQ and a wiki are maintained, and the readme itself has been translated into more than twenty languages.
