Mockoon

Waiting on a backend that is not ready yet stalls frontend and integration work. Mockoon removes that wait by creating mock APIs on your own machine, with no remote deployment and no account, so a fake endpoint exists the moment you need one.

The project combines a desktop application for designing and running mock servers with a command-line tool for headless environments such as continuous integration. A serverless package runs the same mocks inside cloud functions on AWS Lambda, GCP Functions or Firebase Functions, and a paid cloud service adds collaboration, data synchronization and hosted deployment.

Route definitions stay under full control.

• Unlimited local servers: run as many mocks and routes as a project needs, each with its own configuration.
• HTTP detail: methods, status codes, regular expression paths, custom headers and file serving are all editable.
• OpenAPI compatibility: import and export specifications instead of rebuilding endpoints by hand.
• Request logs: every incoming and forwarded request is recorded for inspection.
• Proxy forwarding: pass unmatched calls through to a real API, with HTTPS support and JSON templating alongside.

Desktop builds install through Homebrew, winget, Chocolatey, the Windows Store, Snap and the AUR, and the CLI comes from npm. Mocking this way reduces dependency on third-party rate limits, costs and downtime, and makes error scenarios, status codes and latencies easy to reproduce. The project is independent and maintained without external funding, supported by sponsorships and cloud subscriptions.
