Ente

Ente is a fully open source, end-to-end encrypted platform for keeping data in the cloud without having to trust the service provider. Three apps sit on that platform today, Ente Photos as an alternative to Apple and Google Photos, Ente Locker for important documents and credentials, and Ente Auth, written because no open source encrypted authenticator existed when the team went looking.

The repository is a monorepo holding the clients for iOS, Android, F-Droid, web, Linux, macOS and Windows together with the server that powers them. The source code and cryptography have been audited externally by Cure53, Symbolic Software and Fallible.

Ente Photos carries most of the feature weight of the project.

• Replication: Uploaded data is stored with threefold replication.
• Search: Face detection and semantic search work across an encrypted library.
• Sharing: Private sharing, collaborative albums and family plans cover shared libraries.
• Transfers: Background uploads run continuously, and import and export are both straightforward.
• Authenticator: Ente Auth handles two-factor codes and stays free permanently.

Ente Photos is a paid service with 10GB of free storage, while Ente Locker is free up to 100 items and 1000 for Photos subscribers. Anyone who prefers to keep the data closer can clone the repository and self-host the whole thing instead.
